Pattern Energy has granted Hitachi Energy an agreement for the provision of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technologies for the SunZia transmission project. Located in the United States, the transmission line is currently under construction.
The initiative is part of the larger SunZia project, which will install a 3.5GW wind farm in New Mexico. The link will connect the power plant to the states' transmission network as well as the grid of Arizona and other Western states.
The 525kV HVDC line will run through over 880km. Once it's complete, the transmission project is expected to deliver power to approximately three million people.
